The University of Newcastle has established the South Asia Excellence Scholarship to attract high-achieving students to study at the institution. This merit-based scholarship recognizes applicants with outstanding academic backgrounds and encourages them to continue striving for excellence. 

Eligible students will automatically receive the scholarship upon acceptance into an eligible, non-quota program at the University of Newcastle.   • Be commencing an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program at the University of Newcastle, either on-campus in Australia or through online study (excludes ELICOS, Enabling, Non-Award, Higher Degrees by Research programs, and programs delivered at offshore campuses). 
  • Be an international full-fee paying student. 
  • Not be a recipient of any other University scholarship, unless special dispensation has been granted. 
  • Fulfill all financial obligations of a full-fee paying international student, including tuition fees and other expenses associated with obtaining a student visa. Failure to maintain eligibility may result in the forfeiture of the scholarship. 
  • Not be enrolling in an excluded quota program (see selection details). 
  • A recent offshore graduate of the University of Newcastle who has completed all prior program(s) of study listed in their letter of offer may also be eligible.

About the scholarship  

The University of Newcastle’s China Excellence Scholarship is a merit-based award that aims to attract high-performing international students to study at the university. In order to be considered for the China Excellence Scholarship, you must: 

  • Possess a passport from the People’s Republic of China 
  • Be starting your first program of study at the University during the current intake 
  • Commence an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program at the University (excluding ELICOS, Enabling, Non-Award, Higher Degrees by Research programs, and programs delivered at offshore campuses) 
  • Be an international full-fee paying student 
  • Start your program at an Australian or online campus, as stated in your Letter of Offer 
  • Not be the recipient of any other University scholarship, unless special permission has been granted by the University 
  • Fulfil all financial obligations associated with being an international full-fee paying student, including tuition fees, visa expenses, and any other relevant costs, even if you no longer meet the scholarship’s eligibility criteria.

About the scholarship  

The International Pathway Scholarship is aimed at eligible students who are starting their studies at the University of Newcastle after completing an applicable pathway program (such as Foundation Studies, Degree Transfer, Degree Transfer Extended, or Pre-Master’s Program) at the College of International Education.  

The scholarship provides a 10% reduction in tuition fees for each remaining year of study, based on a full-time course load, and spread across each enrolled course. 

The exact amount of the fee reduction for each term of study will depend on the individual courses chosen by the student, but typically ranges from around AU$350 to AU$500 per 10 units of study (this is an approximate estimate only). 

Eligibility  

To apply for this scholarship, you must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

  • Be an International full-fee paying student. 
  • Have completed a Foundation Studies, Degree Transfer, Degree Transfer Extended, or Pre-Master’s Program at the University of Newcastle College of International Education as part of a packaged offer into the University.

Each course equates to approximately AU$1875 per 10 units of study.

  • Must meet the academic requirements and be enrolled in an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program in Information Technology and Computer Science. 
  • Commencing an eligible program of study at the University of Newcastle in 2023 or beyond, as outlined in your Letter of Offer, either at an Australian or online campus. 
  • Must be an International full-fee paying student. 
  • Should not be the recipient of any other University scholarship, unless permission for special dispensation has been granted beforehand by the university.

UTS Onshore Postgraduate International Scholarship

About the scholarship  

The UTS Onshore Postgraduate International Scholarship aims to encourage international students who are already in Australia to enroll in a postgraduate coursework program at UTS. The scholarship covers 25% of the UTS tuition fees for the standard duration of the course. 

Eligibility  

To qualify for the Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following requirements: 

  • Must not be an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia; 
  • Must hold citizenship of a country in the South Asia, South East Asia or Africa region; 
  • Must have completed a recognized Australian Bachelor degree or higher qualification; 
  • Must meet all admission criteria for the chosen Master by coursework program; 
  • Must commence full-time studies on campus at UTS. 

How to apply 

All international students applying for a Master degree by coursework program at UTS in Sydney will be automatically considered for this Scholarship by UTS International. No additional documentation or separate scholarship application is required beyond what is needed for the coursework application. 

The Scholarship will be awarded based on academic merit in the applicant’s most recent Australian tertiary qualification completed at the Bachelor degree level or higher, and which is recognized by UTS for entry into the chosen UTS Master by coursework program.
