Department of Home Affairs and Skill Assessment Authority:  

The Department of Home Affairs oversees the skilled migration program in Australia. As part of the skilled migration process, it is essential to undergo an IT skills assessment conducted by the appropriate Skill Assessment Authority. For IT-related occupations, the Australian Computer Society (ACS) serves as the authorized Skill Assessment Authority. Requirements

Temporary Graduate Skill Assessment (or 485 Skills Assessment) 

Apply for those who have completed an Australia Bachelor Degree or higher and wish to apply for a visa subclass 485. 

  • ONLY nominated occupations which are on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) are eligible for 485 visa.
  • You must have completed an Australian Bachelor degree or higher with a relevant major in ICT.

Post Australian Study Skills Assessment 

Post Australian Study Skill Assessment can be used for migration purposes 

To qualify for this pathway, you must 

  • Completed a Bachelor degree or higher at an Australian educational institution in Australia with a major in ICT that is closely related to nominated occupation 
  • Have 1 year of relevant post qualification work experience or Completion of an  Professional Year Program 

Note: For the Post-Australian Study pathway, relevant work experience can be either overseas or within Australia but must be acquired after the completion of the relevant Australian degree. 

General Skills Assessment  

General skills assessment is suitable for applicants with tertiary ICT qualifications and ICT employment. 

The experience requirements for this pathway depend on what qualification and what ICT major you obtained. Please refer to the table below for more information. 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) 

The Recognition of Prior Learning pathway is applicable for two types of applicants: those who possess tertiary qualifications with insufficient or no ICT content, and those who do not have any recognised tertiary qualifications. 

  • If an applicants qualification is assessed as an AQF Diploma or higher but has insufficient ICT content, they will need to have six years of relevant work experience completed at any point in their past work history. They will also need to submit a suitable Recognition of Prior Learning application to meet the suitability criteria. 
  • If an applicant does not have any recognised tertiary educational qualification, they will need to have eight years of relevant work experience. They will also need to submit a suitable Recognition of Prior Learning application to meet the suitability criteria. 

You are required to demonstrate how you acquired your ICT knowledge and submit 2 Project Reports within the Recognition of Prior Learning application
