Introduction

James Cook University offers a range of scholarships to international students. Few of these are listed below for the year 2023

JCU International Excellence Scholarship – provides a 25% tuition fee reduction for eligible students from North America, Latin America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, PNG and the Middle East

JCU International Merit Stipend – provides payments of A$400 per fortnight to assist with expenses throughout the duration of study at JCU, for eligible students from Africa

Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship

  • The JCU Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship (partial fee waiver) provides a 50% partial fee waiver for the minimum course duration.
  • The JCU Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship (full fee waiver) provides up to a 100% fee waiver for the minimum course duration.

JCU Research Scholarship – Highly competitive scholarships are available to students commencing research degrees at Master or Doctoral level.

JCU International Excellence Scholarship

It provides a 25% tuition fee reduction throughout the entire duration of approved full degree study programs, provided recipients maintain a strong GPA each semester.

The International Excellence Scholarship is for eligible high achieving students from the United States, Canada, Latin America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, PNG and Middle East. International students transferring from joint programs, and study abroad and exchange students are not eligible.

Scholarship eligibility is automatically assessed during the JCU admissions process. Eligible candidates will receive an offer for their program of study and the International Excellence Scholarship concurrently.

  • Area of Study – Excluding but not limited to, the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Veterinary Science, and online and non-award programs.

  • Scholarship Value – 25% off on tuition fee (provided recipients maintain a strong GPA each semester)

JCU International Merit Stipend

It provides fortnightly payments of A$400 to assist with expenses throughout the duration of study at JCU, providing a strong GPA is maintained.

The International Merit Stipend is for eligible high achieving students from Africa.

Scholarship eligibility is automatically assessed during the admissions process. Eligible candidates will receive an offer for their program of study and the International Merit Stipend concurrently.

JCU Vice Chancellor's International Student Scholarship

It provides up to a 100% fee waiver per year for the minimum course duration.

Application for this scholarship is by invitation only, to international students enrolling in eligible programs, with a weighted average mark (WAM) of 85% or higher, and whose offer of a course is not conditional upon the student satisfying JCU’s English entry requirements.

The JCU Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship is automatically assessed during the admissions process and eligible candidates will receive an invitation to apply for the Scholarship from the JCU International Admissions team.

The JCU Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship (full fee waiver) provides up to a 100% fee waiver for the minimum course duration.

The JCU Vice Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship (partial fee waiver) provides a 50% partial fee waiver for the minimum course duration.

Students must meet the terms and conditions of the scholarship.

JCU Higher Degree by Research Scholarships

JUC Higher Degree by Research Scholarships are awarded annually on a competitive basis to the top-ranking applicants. JCU offers a range of Competitive and Priority HDR Scholarships for international applicants.  Each of these scholarships is paid as a living allowance fortnightly into your personal bank account.

Eligible scholarships are:

  1. International Research Training Program Scholarship (IRTPS)
  • Value: $29,863 pa in 2023 (living allowance paid fortnightly) + Overseas Health Cover
  • Duration: 3.5 years
  1. JCU Postgraduate Research Scholarship (JCUPRS)
  • Value: $29,863 pa in 2023 (living allowance paid fortnightly)
  • Duration: 3.5 years
  1. AIMS@JCU Scholarships
  • Value: $29,863 pa in 2023 (living allowance paid fortnightly) + $5,000 pa as living allowance or project expenses
  • Duration: 3.5 years

NOTE: There are up to 28 more scholarships available based on the major you undertake in your bachelor’s or master’s degree, your study location, and your HDR research topics.
