Overview  

Charles Darwin University (CDU), a public institution in Australia, was named in honor of the renowned naturalist Charles Darwin. The university’s main campus is located in Darwin, Northern Territory, with additional campuses and centers spread from New South Wales to the regional hubs of Alice Spring, making it central to education in the Australian Outback. CDU offers a wide range of courses, including vocational education and training (VET) certificates, diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees, covering diverse fields. 

CDU is recognised for its focus on research that addresses critical issues facing Northern Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, such as tropical and desert environments, indigenous knowledge, public policy, and health challenges. The university’s research often emphasises sustainability, biodiversity, and social welfare, contributing valuable insights and advancements in these areas.

CDU Entry Requirement 

  • English Requirement: To be eligible for a higher education course at CDU, international students must achieve a minimum IELTS score of 6.0, with no individual band score below 6.0.  
  • Academic Requirement: Normally, applicants are required to have completed Year 12 or equivalent in order to enroll in an undergraduate program. For the postgraduate program, the applicants need to obtain a bachelor’s degree or international equivalent.  The minimum academic record varies, depending on each course.

Tuition fees vary depending on the specific course. However, as of 2024, the average annual tuition cost typically can range from $28,000 to $34,000. 

CDU Scholarships for international students 

Vice-Chancellor's International High Achiever Scholarship:

The Vice Chancellor’s International High Achiever Scholarship at CDU is designed to recognise and reward international students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their previous studies. This scholarship provides a 50% tuition fee reduction for the duration of the selected course, supporting high-achieving students from around the world to study at CDU. Eligible candidates must meet the English language entry requirements and must achieve a minimum score of 95% in their highest completed qualification and maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout their course. 

CDU Global Merit Scholarship 2024 – 2025

The CDU Global Merit Scholarship 2024-2025 is a prestigious award to attract and support international students at CDU. The scholarship provides a 30% reduction in tuition fees for the entirety of an eligible academic program. To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a new, full-time student enrolling in a TAFE, undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program and you must meet the university’s entry requirements. Please note that this scholarship is not available for nursing or culinary arts programs.  

2024 CDU International College Pathway Scholarship

The 2024 CDU International College Pathway Scholarship aims to support international students looking to begin their academic journey through pathway programs at CDU International College. This scholarship offers a 10 – 20% reduction in tuition fees, specifically designed to provide financial assistance to students enrolling in preparatory courses such as a Diploma or University Preparatory Program, which leads directly into undergraduate or postgraduate studies. To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the university’s entry requirements. 

2024 ELICOS Scholarship

The 2024 ELICOS Scholarship aims to support international students looking to improve their English language proficiency before starting their formal academic journey. Specifically for students enrolling in the English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS), this scholarship offers a 10 – 20% reduction in tuition fees, making it easier for students to access and complete their language training. 

Study in Australia’s NT Scholarship

Northern Territory Government is currently offering “Study in Australia’s NT Scholarships” for international students who enroll in a course at CDU and meet the CDU’s admission requirements. This scholarship offers one-off payment of AUD6,000 for higher education programs or AUD3750 for VET programs *.  

This scholarship applies to Semester 2, 2024 commencing students and you need to apply for it by 27 May (for VET programs) and 17 June (for Higher Education programs). Study NT Accommodation Grant

This scholarship is provided by the Northern Territory Government to assist international students who are moving to Darwin for study. The scholarship will cover up to 6 weeks of accommodation fee at either International House Darwin or UniLodge Darwin*. To apply for this scholarship, you must receive a full study offer from CDU. Study NT Travel Grant

The Northern Government Territory Government will also offer a grant of up to AUD750 to eligible international students relocating to the Northern Territory from overseas*. *Please note that there are limited places for all the scholarships and grants from the Northern Territory Government. Therefore, submitting your application in advance is a key to increasing your chances of getting these scholarships.
