International Academic Merit Scholarship

The International Academic Merit Scholarship recognises international applicants with strong academic results who are seeking entry into undergraduate or postgraduate coursework programs at Griffith University. Every applicant who meets the eligibility criteria can receive it. No separate application is required; eligible applicants are identified automatically, and the reduction is applied directly to tuition fees. 

Overview 

  • Award value: 20 per cent reduction in tuition fees 
  • Duration: the full length of the degree, subject to ongoing eligibility 
  • Level of study: most undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs (certain exclusions apply) 
  • Commencement: Any trimester in 2026 or 2027 

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must hold citizenship of a country other than Australia or New Zealand. 
  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum GPA of 4.5 on a 7-point scale, or an equivalent standard (applicants may refer to Griffith University’s GPA conversion criteria). 
  • Applicants must satisfy the standard academic and English language entry requirements for their chosen program. 
  • Applicants must undertake full-time study, commencing in any trimester in 2026 or 2027. 
  • Certain programs are excluded from this scholarship, including the Bachelor of Medical Science, Bachelor of Dental Health Science, Doctor of Medicine, Master of Dentistry, Master of Speech Pathology, the MBA, and the Graduate Diploma of Flight Management. 

Application Procedure 

  • No separate application is required. Eligibility is assessed automatically upon submission of a study application to Griffith University, and successful applicants are notified via their Letter of Offer. 

Vice Chancellor's International Scholarship

The Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarship constitutes Griffith University’s principal coursework award for international students. Unlike the International Academic Merit Scholarship above, this award is offered to a limited number of outstanding applicants annually, with places awarded on a competitive basis. As the number of scholarships is restricted and applications are subject to fixed closing dates, prospective applicants are advised to submit their applications at the earliest opportunity. 

Overview 

  • Award value: 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees 
  • Duration: the full length of the degree, contingent upon satisfaction of ongoing eligibility requirements 
  • Level of study: undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs 
  • Commencement: 2026 or 2027 

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must hold citizenship of a country other than Australia or New Zealand. 
  • Applicants must be new, commencing students who have received an offer of study prior to the scholarship application closing date. 
  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum GPA of 6.0 on a 7-point scale in previous studies, or an equivalent standard. 
  • Applicants must satisfy Griffith University’s academic and English language entry requirements for their chosen program. 
  • Applicants must undertake full-time study, commencing in 2026 or 2027. 

Application Procedure 

  • Applicants must first submit an application for admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate program at Griffith University. 
  • Following receipt of a Letter of Offer, applicants must submit a scholarship application by the relevant closing date for their commencing trimester (refer to the table below), including academic transcripts and a personal statement addressing their suitability for the award. 
  • Applications meeting the eligibility criteria are subsequently reviewed by a University panel. 
  • Applicants are notified of the outcome upon completion of the review process.

Receipt of the Scholarship 

  • Successful applicants must accept both their program offer and the scholarship offer by the date specified in the Scholarship Letter; failure to do so results in withdrawal of the offer. 
  • Once study commences, the scholarship is applied prior to the census date of each trimester, subject to the applicant meeting the ongoing enrolment requirements set out below. Any outstanding fee balance remains payable by the census date. 

Ongoing Enrolment Requirements 

  • Recipients must remain enrolled full-time, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and meet their student visa requirements, unless credit precludes full-time enrolment. 
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 5.5 on a 7.0-point scale must be maintained annually for the scholarship to continue applying in the following year. 
  • Recipients must remain enrolled in the program for which the scholarship was awarded. 
  • Should a recipient withdraw or cancel their enrolment for any reason, the value of the scholarship already applied is non-refundable.

GELI Direct Entry Program Scholarship

The GELI Direct Entry Program Scholarship is a smaller, one-off award granted to the highest-performing student within each intake of Griffith’s English language pathway program. It recognises academic achievement attained prior to commencement of the recipient’s degree, rather than during it. 

Overview 

The Direct Entry Program (DEP), offered through the Griffith English Language Institute (GELI), assists international students in attaining the English language proficiency required for entry into a Griffith University degree program. The scholarship is awarded to the top-performing student within each DEP cohort who subsequently progresses into an eligible Griffith University program. 

  • Award value: AUD 1,000 
  • Duration: one-off award, applied in the recipient’s first trimester 
  • Level of study: undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs 
  • Commencement: Trimester 1, 2 or 3 in 2026 

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must hold citizenship of a country other than Australia or New Zealand. 
  • Applicants must have completed the Direct Entry Program at the Griffith English Language Institute (GELI). 
  • Applicants must satisfy the academic and English language entry requirements for their chosen undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program. 
  • Applicants must undertake full-time study, commencing in Trimester 1, 2 or 3 in 2025 or 2026. 

Application Procedure 

  • No separate application is required. The scholarship is awarded automatically to the top-performing DEP student who progresses into an eligible program (one recipient per campus, at Nathan and Gold Coast, per DEP intake). 
  • The recipient is announced at their graduation ceremony and presented with a certificate and scholarship letter. 
  • Recipients must accept the scholarship by the date specified in the scholarship letter, failing which the offer is withdrawn. 
  • The AUD 1,000 award is deducted from tuition fees prior to the census date of the recipient’s first trimester; any outstanding balance remains payable by that date. 

Griffith International Scholarship for Griffith College Diploma to Degree

This scholarship constitutes a pathway award for students who have completed a diploma at Griffith College prior to articulating into an undergraduate degree at Griffith University. As with the GELI Direct Entry Program Scholarship above, it is awarded automatically to the highest-performing students, rather than through a separate application process. 

Overview 

This scholarship is awarded to the highest-performing Griffith College Diploma graduates who progress into an undergraduate degree program at Griffith University. 

  • Award value: AUD 3,000 
  • Duration: one-off award, applied in the recipient’s first trimester 
  • Level of study: undergraduate programs 
  • Commencement: Trimester 1, 2 or 3 in 2026 

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must hold citizenship of a country other than Australia or New Zealand. 
  • Applicants must have completed a diploma at Griffith College. 
  • Applicants must satisfy the academic and English language entry requirements for their chosen undergraduate program. 
  • Applicants must undertake full-time study, commencing in Trimester 1, 2 or 3 in 2025 or 2026 at Griffith University. 

Application Procedure 

  • No separate application is required. Applicants who achieve a strong result in their Griffith College diploma are notified by Griffith University if they have been selected for the award. 
  • The scholarship is deducted from undergraduate tuition fees prior to the census date of the recipient’s first trimester; any outstanding balance remains payable by that date. 

Griffith Research Scholarships

Griffith Research Scholarships represent a distinct category of funding, comprising a competitive package for international students undertaking a PhD or other Higher Degree Research (HDR) program. Unlike the coursework scholarships described above, these awards provide support for both living costs and tuition fees, rather than a fixed percentage reduction. 

Funding Structure 

Research candidates are typically funded through two scholarships awarded jointly: 

  • Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUPRS) — a living stipend paid fortnightly, valued at approximately AUD 35,656 per annum at the 2026 rate and indexed annually. This scholarship does not cover tuition fees. 
  • Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUIPRS) — a tuition fee offset covering program fees for the duration of the award (up to 3.5 years for a PhD, and up to 2 years for a research Master’s degree), in addition to Overseas Student Health Cover and the Student Services and Amenities Fee. 

International candidates awarded a GUPRS are typically also awarded a corresponding GUIPRS as part of the same funding package. 

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must be commencing or already enrolled in an eligible HDR program at Griffith University. 
  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours, or demonstrate equivalent research experience or qualifications. 
  • Applicants must not have already completed a degree at the same level or higher than the HDR program for which they are applying. 
  • For first-year candidate rounds, applicants must have completed no more than 12 months (full-time equivalent) of prior HDR candidature at the applicable scholarship commencement date. 
  • Applicants must not have previously held an equivalent scholarship, except under specific conditions set out in Griffith University’s HDR Scholarship Procedure. 

Application Procedure 

  • Applicants must submit an application for admission to an eligible HDR program together with a scholarship application. 
  • Applications are assessed competitively with reference to academic merit, research potential, and the quality of the research training environment associated with the proposed project. 
  • Application rounds are conducted at various points throughout the year; for example, the Round 1 window for 2027 intakes remained open until August 2026. Applicants should consult Griffith University’s ‘Key dates’ page annually, as these dates are subject to change. 
  • Applicants are typically notified of the outcome by email within six to eight weeks.
