The government has just announced significant updates to the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Resident Visa<\/b>.<\/a> These changes are designed to make it easier for employers to retain talented staff and to support the country’s long-term economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Two New Pathways to Residence<\/h2>

The biggest update is the introduction of two brand-new residence pathways, recognizing the immense value of practical skills and on-the-job experience.<\/p>\n

  1. Skilled Work Experience Pathway:<\/b> This is for migrants in skilled roles (classified as ANZSCO skill level 1 to 3). To be eligible, you’ll need at least five years of relevant work experience<\/b>, with two of those years being in New Zealand while earning at least 1.1 times the median wage.<\/li>\n
  2. Trades and Technician Pathway:<\/b> Tailored for those in specific trades or technician roles, this pathway requires a relevant Level 4 or higher qualification. You’ll need at least four years of post-qualification experience<\/b>, including 18 months in New Zealand earning at or above the median wage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
