International Merit Scholarship

About the scholarship  

The QUT International Merit Scholarship is available from all faculties: 

  • Faculty of Business and Law 
  • Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice 
  • Faculty of Engineering 
  • Faculty of Health 
  • Faculty of Science. 

It is available for students who: 

  • have demonstrated academic excellence in their past studies 
  • continue to achieve high standards for the duration of their studies. 

This scholarship is applied for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  

What you will receive  

You’ll receive either: 

  • a scholarship to cover 25% of your tuition fees for your first two semesters (one year) of study at QUT, provided you meet the minimum academic standards. 
  • an ongoing scholarship to cover 25% of your tuition fees per semester of study at QUT, provided you meet the ongoing academic conditions for all eligible courses offered by: 
  • Faculty of Business and Law 
  • Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice 
  • Faculty of Engineering 
  • Faculty of Science. 

The ongoing scholarship is not available for courses offered by the Faculty of Health. 

Eligibility 

You must meet all the following requirements: 

  • completed a qualifying course with the required academic result 
  • meet minimum English language entry requirements for the degree program. If you complete a QUT pathway program for the purpose of satisfying QUT English language requirements, you may be eligible for this scholarship once you start your degree program 
  • receive an admission offer letter into one of the eligible courses offered by participating faculties. 

You’re not eligible if: 

  • you receive another QUT academic scholarship.

QUT Excellence Scholarship

About the scholarship  

The QUT Excellence Scholarship is QUT’s premier offering for outstanding academic achievers. Over 130 scholarships will be awarded annually, worth over $3.5 million. 

What you will receive 

  • scholarships valued at $30,000 each for study in any discipline 
  • scholarships valued at $30,000 each for courses in the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering only. 

These scholarships will be paid as a study stipend of up to $5,000 after the HECS-HELP census date of each semester for up to three years ($10,000 per year). 

  • scholarships valued at $10,000 each for study in any discipline. 

This scholarship will be paid as a study stipend of $2,500 after the HECS-HELP census date of each semester for the first four semesters of your course ($5,000 per year). 

  • Other benefits may include: 
  • early access to research opportunities 
  • membership to QUT’sCollege of Excellence. 

Successful recipients from our Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering who achieve a grade point average (GPA) of 6 or above in their first semester will be invited to apply for a place in the Science and Engineering Dean’s Scholars Program from Semester 2, 2023. 

Eligibility  

You must be one of: 

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen 
  • a permanent resident 
  • the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa 
  • an international student who has completed high school (or International Baccalaureate) in Australia or an Australian curriculum overseas. 

You must also: 

  • be graduating Year 12 in 2022 or have graduated Year 12 in 2021 
  • be starting university for the first time in 2023 
  • have achieved a minimum unadjusted ATAR of 98 or equivalent 
  • have placed QUT as your first preference on your QTAC application. 

Conditions

To keep your scholarship, you must:

  • remain enrolled full-time 
  • maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 5.00 or higher each semester. 

You can’t: 

  • defer your offer and undertake alternative university studies 
  • hold any other scholarship, except an Equity Scholarship.  

Dean’s Scholars Program (QUT Business School)

What you will receive  

  • You will receive a scholarship of $12,000 over 3 years. 
  • Upon successfully completing the Bachelor of Business degree with a GPA 5.5 of above, you will: 
    • receive an automatic offer into Honours, or 
    • be eligible to seek admission into IF80 Master of Philosophy, and 
    • receive a further scholarship of $8,000 over the Honours year or Master (1.5 or 2 year) program. 
  • The Honours or Masters component of the scholarship applies to Dean’s Scholar graduates who transition immediately into fourth year studies. 
  • Other benefits may include: 
    • automatic membership of the QUT College of Excellence 
    • invitation to the College of Excellence start of year camp 
    • exclusive opportunities to attend QUT Business School’s Business Leaders’ Forums 
    • the opportunity to represent QUT through the Student Ambassador Program. 

Eligibility 

You must: 

  • be completing Australian Year 12 studies or equivalent this year, or 
  • have completed Australian Year 12 last year and taken a gap year 
  • be starting university for the first time in 2023 (START QUT and similar programs are allowed) 
  • accept a QTAC offer for a place in the Bachelor of Business (Dean’s Scholars) program, or 
  • accept a QUT offer if you deferred your studies for a year, or you are an international student. 

Terms and Conditions  

To keep your scholarship, you must: 

  • emain enrolled full-time 
  • maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 5.5 or higher in each semester. 

You can: 

  • take a leave of absence for up to 2 years (in accordance with QUT student rules), but only after you have completed one full-time semester of study. You won’t receive scholarship payments during this time. 
  • accept a QUT Excellence Scholarship offer instead while remaining enrolled in BS06.  Simply decline the Dean’s Scholars Program scholarship offer and indicate in the relevant section of the contract, your reason for doing so. 
  • graduate with a QUT Bachelor of Business without continuing to Honours or Masters, if you so choose. They are separate enrolments, with separate graduate parchments being awarded for the undergraduate degree, and Honours or Masters. 

You can’t:

  • hold any other merit scholarship; Equity Scholarships are permitted.  
  • take leave between graduating from the Bachelor of Business and commencing your Honours or Masters studies without forfeiting the Dean’s Scholars entitlement ($8,000). 

QUT College Merit Scholarship

About the scholarship  

This scholarship is sponsored by QUT College. It is available to international students who have demonstrated academic achievement or can demonstrate how they intend to commit to success in their future studies. 

What you will receive

You will receive either: 

  • a scholarship to cover $2,600 of your first semester tuition fee for your foundation program 
  • a scholarship to cover $3,120 of your first semester tuition fee for your diploma program.

Equity Scholarship Scheme

About the scholarship  

Open to all eligible current and future QUT students, the QUT Equity Scholarships Scheme offers more than $4 million worth of scholarships, bursaries and computers to low-income students each year. 

What you will receive  

International students could receive either: 

  • an Equity Bursary of $1,500 for one semester 
  • an Equity computer (with the capacity to access internet). You can only receive an Equity computer every third year (i.e. if you received one in 2021 or in 2022, you can’t receive one in 2023). 

Eligibility 

To be eligible, in addition to being a current or future domestic or international student undertaking an undergraduate, postgraduate or research qualification, you must be:

  • from a low-income household 
  • experiencing financial hardship 

Personal hardship will also be taken into consideration when assessing applications. Examples of these include: 

  • personal medical conditions 
  • disabilities 
  • dependents with special needs. 

QUT Research Scholarship

About this scholarship  

There are a variety of scholarships for research programs that you can apply for at any time throughout the year and some that can only be applied for during our annual scholarship round. Typically, scholarships are only available for students who can commit to full time, internal enrolment. 

  • The QUT research scholarship usually covers all the costs for you to study in Australia, which includes tuition fee, living allowance and health insurance (OSHC).  
  • These scholarships are usually available for post graduate level (master by research and PhD programs)  

Eligibility and Application Process

You’ll need to show that you are prepared for research studies. You can do this by providing evidence of: 

  • your research experience (journal article, conference, creative work, etc.)  
  • your university degree, completed no more than 10 years ago 
  • English language requirements: Normally, you are required to obtain an IELTS 6.5 with no band score under 6.0. 
  • your supervisor: Not all academics at QUT are available to supervise research students, so contact your preferred potential supervisor early to check their availability. You’ll need your proposed supervisor’s written support before you can submit your expression of interest. 
  • your research proposal: It is a key requirement of your application. Writing a research proposal is an essential step in defining and conveying your research interests and goals. Once you have your proposed supervisor’s written agreement to support your project, work with them to develop your research proposal.

  • When to apply? The scholarship application date is from 1/May/2023 – 31/July/2023  
  • Outcomes: You will receive the scholarship outcomes from 30/Nov/2023
